The Arboretum was established in 1931 and is owned and operated by Connecticut College. This self-guided tour, which begins at the notice board just inside the Williams Street entrance of the Arboretum, is an introduction to the 25-acre collection of trees and shrubs native to eastern North America, and to some of southern New England’s common biological communities. At its founding, the mission of Connecticut College was based around three ideals: to provide a quality liberal arts education to women who did not have access to higher education, to foster community by situating that education in a residential setting, and to structure that education to prepare students to make a difference in the world. Discover its rich history and environmental significance while reconnecting with classmates in this serene setting.
